  Cover image: [The Captive.] E.J. Detmold. [pencil signature.] [1923.] Etching, signed by the artist, published edition of 100 proofs. 350 x 300mm (13¾ x 12"), with large margins. A fantastic image of an eagle perched on a rock with a middle eastern city in the background with the temple to the left. To the right can be seen two camels seated with the city walls and mountains in the background. Edward Julius Detmold (1883-1957) began etching with his twin, Maurice, and exhibited at The Royal Academy aged 13. In 1908 Maurice committed suicide and Edward, traumatised, stopped etching. In 1922 an appreciative article about the Detmolds in the Print Collector's Quarterly inspiring Edward to return to printmaking.
